Armour of Resilience

During my career, I participated in four hospital mergers, and experienced two career transitions prompted by management restructuring and the financial impact of COVID-19 - the latter in July 2020. Two months later, I underwent a total hip replacement, followed by months of intensive rehabilitation and self-care. Then, I helped two sons (both university graduates) who were struggling to find employment, land their first “contract” positions. Simultaneously, I built a consulting business plan and prepared to become an entrepreneur. With limited funds, I engaged in “free” learning opportunities across Canada, the United States and awoke before 5 AM to participate in sessions from the United Kingdom.

For me, resilience is digging deep, reflecting and donning armour that is plated with a positive mindset and hope, then welded together with gratitude for each learning opportunity and the people who reach out, lift you up, provide encouragement and support.

Stories of resilience abound. We cannot forget health workers who attended to our well-being throughout the pandemic and other essential workers who ensured we had a food supply and the necessities of life.

I’m a third and fourth generation Ukrainian by bloodline who has never experienced war. The horrific stories in the Ukraine that we are seeing and hearing today, are unfathomable to me. When you listen intently, the word “resilience” is used repeatedly to describe the people of Ukraine.

Resilience is what keeps us strong and generates courage to move forward. Resilience requires willingness to take risks, to try something completely new while knowing that failure is a possibility. Resilience enables quick recovery, ability to regroup, rejig our mindset, revise our strategy or action plan and even change one’s life course.

My consulting business name is Cinder to Flame and it depicts resilience, transformation and passion to achieve the vision for sustainable, quality living. Corporations who share this vision aim to better the lives of people, and their contribution differs by public or private service and industry sector.

Cinder to Flame helps Corporations solve complex challenges with strategic services that energize people, fuel a healthy corporate culture and ignite major innovation.
